System Center Operations Manager 2007

System Center Operations Manager is a software solution to meet the need for end-to-end service monitoring in the enterprise IT environment. Operations Manager provides an easy-to-use monitoring environment that monitors thousands of servers, applications, and clients to provide a comprehensive view of the health of an organization’s IT environment. This view of service health is key to a rapid, agile response to events that may impact the normal running of business and ultimately cost enterprise money.

System Center Operations Manager 2007 is the third generation of Microsoft’s award-winning monitoring solution. Operations Manager 2007 builds on the success of its predecessors by adding key features and functionality that customers and the market have been demanding. Microsoft listened to users of the first two versions of Operations Manager to find out what they liked, and how they thought it could be improved. Customers wanted to monitor IT services in addition to individual servers, and they wanted more detailed troubleshooting and best practice knowledge. To answer this need, Microsoft enhanced the already capable Operations Manager solution by designing Operations Manager 2007 around these three pillars:

End-to-end service management, Best-of-breed for Windows, Increased Efficiency and Control

Within these pillars, Microsoft has leveraged the best of existing technologies, such as Windows and Microsoft SQL Server, and embraced new technologies such as the System Definition Model (SDM) and Windows PowerShell scripting engine. System Center Operations Manager 2007 has answered the needs of our customers and the market. This overview provides a high-level view of the key features of Operations Manager 2007. For more detailed information about these features, please see the Operations Manager 2007 product documentation.

Application and Host Protection – Client and Server Anti-Malware Services

Deployment for Microsoft Forefront Client Security
Microsoft® Forefront™ Client Security is designed to help protect business desktops, laptops, and server operating systems from viruses, spyware, trojans, and other current and emerging threats. Forefront Client Security delivers critical visibility of threats and vulnerabilities by using central management, and it integrates with System Center solutions, Active Directory® directory services, and other Microsoft technologies. This CBS engagement helps your organization begin the deployment of Forefront Client Security to protect your enterprise and create a highly integrated and efficient means to detect, update, and report on virus, spyware, or malicious software activity in the enterprise.

Exceptional Protection and Extraordinary Value
Imagine a single solution for configuring, monitoring, and maintaining malicious software protection across your entire enterprise, including automated responses to client infections, enterprise outbreaks, and network flooding. You can achieve all that for the same price as most companies pay for antivirus protection alone. And CBS can turn that vision into reality in as little as four weeks.

Deployment for Microsoft Forefront Client Security takes your organization from the requirements to a fully deployed implementation. We will provide your operations staff with training, best practices, and lessons learned from other customer deployments.

Proven Method
Deployment for Microsoft Forefront Client Security is designed to assist a customer in implementing a Forefront Client Security solution. The service capitalizes on the Microsoft solution architecture to envision, plan, develop, stabilize (test), and deploy a complete antivirus, anti-spyware, and Security State Assessment solution in your computing environment.

1. Envisioning—Consultants will analyze your existing IT environment, malicious software solutions and requirements to create an accurate vision of your Forefront Client Security goals, business drivers, and solution expectations.

2. Plan—Consultants will work with your staff to create a Forefront Client Security conceptual design capable of meeting the malicious software management requirements of your organization including your manageability, scalability, reliability, and interoperability requirements.

3. Develop—Working with your network and systems administrators, our consultants will develop a detailed Forefront Client Security solution for your environment including the physical and logical layout of Forefront Client Security components, components configurations, testing requirements, and deployment plans.

4. Stabilize—The next prototype of the solution will be deployed in your test environment to verify design functionality and to train your staff on Forefront Client Security deployment and operations.

5. Deploy—Consultants will deploy and configure the pilot implementation into your production environment and build operational guidance for your specific workstation and server environments in-order to help your staff.

These phases provide a proven method for building solutions based on Microsoft best practices, and years of experience deploying desktops and server solutions at customer locations.

At the end of the project, you will have a fully operational, Forefront Client Security solution that can be expanded to meet the malicious software monitoring, alerting, and response requirements of the entire enterprise.

To accomplish the schedule and fixed cost of the offering, you should meet minimum prerequisites:

  • A sufficient number of desktop, laptop, and server systems available for the Forefront Client Security pilot (preferably at a single, physical location).
  • Active Directory forest in operational good health.
  • Healthy dynamic host configuration protocol (DHCP), domain name server (DNS), and WINS resolution.
  • Preferably, a recent Active Directory Health check by PSS.
  • An isolated test environment that mirrors the production Active Directory, DHCP, DNS, and WINS configurations.
  • Actual or virtual systems in the test environment for each Forefront Client Security component and each type of Forefront Client Security client that will be deployed.
  • All required production server hardware pre-installed with Windows Server 2003 SP1.
  • All required software licenses for the server and desktop software.
  • A Windows Software Update Service (WSUS) server or System Management Server 2003 system in operational good health or Windows Update capability installed.
